Building Your Therapy Toolkit | Session #1
Understanding Emotions & Building Regulation Skills
📅 Sunday, December 6 | 10:00 AM
Zoom Link Emailed After Course Is Purchased
Emotions can be complex, overwhelming, and sometimes difficult to navigate. This interactive training session is designed for social work and psychotherapy students, as well as new therapy graduates, looking to expand their clinical toolkit with practical strategies for supporting clients with emotional awareness and regulation.
Participants will explore the purpose and function of emotions, challenge the idea of “good” versus “bad” emotions, and examine how different emotions can become tangled and difficult to separate through an interactive Tangled Ball of Emotions activity. We’ll also explore the feelings that may exist beneath anger and how increasing emotional awareness can help clients better understand their experiences.
The session will introduce practical, DBT-informed strategies for managing emotional intensity, including the Window of Tolerance, Wise Mind, the ice dive technique, grounding strategies, and breathing exercises.
Participants will leave with practical, adaptable activities and tools they can begin incorporating into their clinical work to help clients better understand their emotions, navigate distress, and build emotional regulation skills.
Handouts and practical resources are included.
