Healthy relationships require ongoing communication, emotional connection, mutual understanding, and the ability to navigate challenges together. This interactive training session is designed for social work and psychotherapy students, as well as new therapy graduates, looking to expand their clinical toolkit with practical strategies for supporting clients in building and maintaining healthier relationships.

Participants will explore the foundations of healthy relationships, identify common relationship challenges, and learn creative approaches to assessing interpersonal dynamics. Through interactive activities such as the Healthy Relationship Wall, Hat Exercise, and Gingerbread Man assessment activity, we'll explore ways to help clients reflect on their relationship experiences, identify needs, and develop a deeper understanding of their interpersonal patterns.

The session will also introduce practical strategies for strengthening emotional intimacy, connection, and understanding between partners. Participants will explore activities focused on love languages, meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and the Gottman-inspired Six Hours to a Better Relationship framework. We'll also introduce creative exercises, including photo-based activities, that can help couples reconnect and explore emotional intimacy.

Additionally, participants will learn Couples Therapy Gottman-informed approaches to identifying unhealthy communication patterns, navigating disagreements, and repairing relationship ruptures. Tools will include the Four Horsemen, Aftermath of a Conflict Road Map, and Gottman Repair Checklist, with a focus on helping clients recognize unhelpful relationship patterns and develop healthier approaches to conflict resolution.

Participants will leave with practical, adaptable activities, assessment strategies, and therapeutic interventions they can begin incorporating into their clinical work to support clients in strengthening relationships, improving emotional connection, and navigating interpersonal challenges.

Handouts and practical resources are included.
